Home Screens

Your Q's Home Screen

Mac 3P from KOOLdezine

The home screen is the default screen you see when you use your Q. It's the main screen that displays links to applications, the date, time, meetings, radio status, email/SMS notifications, etc.

The home screen is written in a language called XML. This very simple language commonly used in todays interactive world is easy to create and edit thereby making the Q's home screen fully customizable.

If you're not a programmer and have no desire to learn XML or Photoshop, no problem! More and more designers are creating and sharing custom home screen such as the one pictured at the right. This one was created by "Gadget" of KOOLdezines, Inc.

You may install a new home screen by doing the following;
  • download a custom home screen ZIP file from a website such as KOOLdezines
  • unzip the contents of the zip file to a folder on your desktop
  • connect your Q to your PC via the USB cable and allow Active Sync to sync with your phone
  • from Active Sync, click the Explore button Home Screens - Everything Q
  • navigate to the follow folder on your Q: My Windows Mobile-Based Device > Application Data > Home
  • copy the (3) files from the zip folder to this directory on your Q

Now that the new home screen files are on your Q, you need to select them from the Settings menu on your Q.
  • open your Start menu
  • select the Settings icon
  • select option D (Home Screen)
  • from the first drop down menu select the new home screen (in this case "Mac 3 w Profile")
  • click Done
  • click Done again

You will now be taken back to your Q's home screen. In a few seconds you will see your new home screen load and display. You may change your home screen as many times as you like by following the steps above.
